I had intermittent ear discharge since last 1.5 yrs ,but I could manage to go to ENT specialist doctor only last week.He cleaned my ear with the help of microscope with inbult camera system and attached monitor .He demonstrated on the monitor that I had a central perforation of the tympanic membrane-what to do next ?
It is alright in case you Ear pathology -Case 3,in case if you have ear discharge,but in case if you get only temporary relief by treatment and this keeps on recurring again and again ,then you need to consult an ENT (Ear,nose ,throat) specialist doctor,who in case of ear discharge will clean the ear with microsope.Camera with monitor system is attached to it,so that the patient can view the tympanic membrane on the screen . If the tympanic membrane shows residual perforation or resistant granular myringitis,then the patient requires Tympanoplasty surgery . It should be well borne in mind that Tympanoplasty is not a 100 percent succesful surgery .Success rate is in the range of 90 percent to 95 percent only and this is due to error in the technique and not due to fault in the ENT specialist doctor ,so the ENT specialist doctor should not be blamed in any case Introduction to Tympanoplasty Surgery-![]() |

Introduction Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM), which is typified by recurring or prolonged acute otitis media episodes lasting longer than 12 weeks, can damage and perforate the tympanic membrane (TM), which will not heal.CSOM is the most common infectious disease that affects kids worldwide. Risk factors include having Native American, Native Alaskan, or Aboriginal Australian ancestry, poor nutrition, unsanitary living circumstances, family history, low birth weight, cranial abnormalities, and upper respiratory infections. Hearing loss and otorrhoea that enters the external ear canal through the TM perforation are symptoms of CSOM. Even though the average hearing loss is just 10 to 20 dB, there is a chance that it could get worse with severe perforations.
